About the Role
You will work as part of a trusted and experienced team to drive innovation across on-prem, private cloud, and public cloud environments, with a strong focus on automation, stability, security, and cost efficiency. The team builds and operates self-service database platforms business units, enabling reliable and scalable database services at enterprise scale.
The Database as a Service (DBaaS) squad is looking for a Database Engineer who can take technical ownership of database platforms and actively shape their long-term evolution. The role combines engineering, operations, and platform responsibility, working on backlog items within an agile setup to deliver predictable and sustainable outcomes.
Operational on-call coverage is limited (approximately once every two months and decreasing as the team grows) and applies only to high-priority incidents. The team follows a “you build it, you run it” philosophy and actively strives to automate operational activities wherever possible.
Responsibilities
Take technical ownership of enterprise and mission-critical database platforms
Influence architecture, HA/DR strategies, and operational standards
Act as a technical point of contact for complex database topics and escalations
Support and guide other engineers through technical challenges
Work closely with international and geographically distributed teams
Share knowledge, ideas, and best practices across the team
Maintain a strong customer orientation and understanding of business requirements
Proactively identify risks, issues, and opportunities during backlog refinement
Coordinate with your team to support hybrid working arrangements
Operate with integrity and strong ethical standards
Requirements

You will join a highly skilled, dedicated, and cross-functional database team located between Slovakia and Switzerland.
Experience designing and operating complex database environments in cloud or private cloud settings, preferably on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
Strong understanding of Oracle databases in RAC environments, preferably on Exadata
Good understanding of PostgreSQL database internals
Deep understanding of SQL performance tuning and optimization in Oracle and PostgreSQL
Experience supporting mission-critical database platforms, including high availability, replication, backup and recovery, and operational readiness
Experience with scripting and automation (Shell/Bash, PL/SQL, Python)
Experience taking technical ownership of database platforms, including design decisions, operational trade-offs, and long-term sustainability
Experience developing automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for database platforms
Strong attention to detail, quality-oriented mindset, and solution-focused approach
Hands-on attitude with a willingness to continuously learn and improve
Proficiency in English, both written and spoken
Nice to Have Skills
One or more Oracle certifications
One or more Microsoft Azure certifications
Exposure to CI/CD pipelines for database-related changes
Knowledge of or interest in AIOps, machine learning, or statistical modeling
